At Monceau Automobiles we have decided to equip our Mercedes classic cars with an electric powertrain. But why have we done so? Why not just restoring classic vehicles and keep their original internal combustion engines? Well, the reasons are threefold.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

As a starting point, we wanted our customers to have an excellent driving experience. This not only means a smooth driving experience but also a care-free driving experience. Nobody likes going to a mechanic to check whether their car is still fully in order. But whereas a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) has a high number of moving parts (hundreds of them), an electric vehicle only has a single moving part, the motor shaft itself. This renders the electric vehicle more reliable which means the vehicle requires a lot less maintenance! No more oil changes, filter replacements, periodic tune ups and so on, a relief for every vehicle owner that likes to enjoy a carefree life without compromising on driving pleasure.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Secondly, we wanted to make the Mercedes SL\/SLC more spirited than the original version. We wanted to combine its original elegance with state-of-the-art technology to offer the smoothest driving experience possible. An electric vehicle is able to driver smoother than an ICE-driven vehicle due to its torque characteristic. The torque is the rotating force that the motor can deliver, which is then transferred to the wheels. The motor torque always evolves as a function of the motor speed. Internal combustion engines can only deliver torque in a limited speed range of the motor, which is why a gearbox is needed to switch the transfer ratio from the motor to the wheels. This way, the ICE motor is able to provide torque at the wheels at all vehicle speeds. However, an electric motor can provide torque over the entire speed range of the vehicle without the need of an intermediary gearbox! Therefore there is no need for switching any gears and a very smooth driving experience is guaranteed. Another advantage is that electric motors have the ability to deliver the full motor torque at zero speed. Those interested in a high acceleration, will definitely not be disappointed, without too much effort we expect the Monceau eSL\/eSLC to accelerate to 100 km\/h faster than any ICE-powered SL\/SLC has ever done.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Enfin, la protection de l'environnement est un sujet br\u00fblant d'actualit\u00e9 et constitue l'une des principales raisons pour lesquelles les gens se tournent vers les v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques. Cependant, le cycle de production complet de ces v\u00e9hicules entra\u00eene \u00e9galement d\u2019importantes \u00e9missions de CO\u2082. Il faut reconna\u00eetre que l\u2019extraction des mat\u00e9riaux pr\u00e9cieux n\u00e9cessaires \u00e0 la fabrication des batteries est elle aussi un processus tr\u00e8s \u00e9metteur de CO\u2082, mais des \u00e9tudes montrent que, sur l\u2019ensemble de son cycle de vie, un v\u00e9hicule \u00e9lectrique \u00e9met effectivement moins de CO\u2082 qu\u2019un v\u00e9hicule \u00e0 moteur \u00e0 combustion interne. De plus, dans notre cas pr\u00e9cis, nous \u00e9vitons environ 30% d\u2019\u00e9missions de CO\u2082 suppl\u00e9mentaires, car nous r\u00e9utilisons int\u00e9gralement le ch\u00e2ssis de la Mercedes d\u2019origine ! Si l\u2019on ajoute \u00e0 cela le fait que ces voitures de collection n\u2019ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7ues pour rouler de mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s respectueuse de l\u2019environnement (NOx, SOx, etc.), nous contribuons r\u00e9ellement \u00e0 faire la diff\u00e9rence en les transformant en v\u00e9hicules plus \u00e9cologiques !<\/p>

En conclusion, la Mercedes \u00e9lectrique \u00e9tait la solution id\u00e9ale pour ce que nous voulions faire : construire une voiture sans souci, embl\u00e9matique, fougueuse et propre. En conservant le design, en int\u00e9grant les derni\u00e8res technologies et en optimisant l'exp\u00e9rience de conduite, nous pensons cr\u00e9er un m\u00e9lange parfait entre l'ancien et le nouveau. Nous aimons conduire et attendons d\u00e9j\u00e0 avec impatience notre premier essai routier !
